The SWOT wide swath altimetry mission, launched in 2022, provides an unprecedented means to observe previously inaccessible fine-scale ocean dynamics (Morrow et al, 2019). Unlike conventional altimetry, SWOT provides 120 km wide images with a 2 km pixel size. The objectives of the mission are to quantify the role of oceanic fine scales in energy transfers and vertical heat and carbon exchanges (between surface and atmosphere, or surface and subsurface).
